Today we featured two top ensembles from Lake Zurich High School, their Concert Choir led by Nick Juknelis and their Wind Ensemble led by Josh Thompson. Both groups have done exceptionally well at contests and festivals run by IMEA and IHSA , they've gone on international tours and they gave superb spring concerts, which we taped for this program.
As we mentioned on the program, Lake Zurich School District 95 has run into tough times financially due to the recession, and their music programs have been effected. A group called Save Lake Zurich Music has been trying to raise $160,000 necessary to prevent cuts to the elementary band and orchestra programs and also to the director of the Concert Choir.
The reason high school ensembles can achieve great things is because students start early in elementary school, so such cuts would be felt for years to come! Visit http://www.savelakezurichmusic.com/ to see the group's fundraising progress and to see how you might be able to help.
Here's an individual clip of the choir in Ride On, King Jesus:
